Advocacy Project 2002: Forget Me Knots
Deadline extended--see below!
Last year CHARGE and NYSN* produced Advocacy Project 2001: Changing Scenes (http://chargeinc.org/ap2001/cover.html), a booklet that reflected the life-changing effects of fibromyalgia syndrome, chronic fatigue immune dysfunction syndrome and related disorders, to communicate the complexity of these illnesses and the way our lives have been changed to the public. (To receive a copy please send four 37-cent stamps and your address to CHARGE, PO Box 1085, Pearl River, NY 10965. Please do not affix the stamps to an envelope.)
300 ribbons and counting!
Advocacy Project 2002: Forget Me Knots (AP 2002): This year CHARGE and NYSN are creating a quipu to represent the years we have each lost to these conditions. A quipu is the way the people of the Andes kept records using knots tied in cotton cord. Generally there was a main cord off which other cords hung, each cord containing a series of knots representing numbers. We will have a main ribbon which we will hang your ribbons off. We ask that you send us a ribbon tied with knots, one knot for each year you have been ill with these conditions. We hope this visual aid will help others see how many lives have been affected, and how many years we have endured.
We've gotten so many emails from interested individuals and support groups who aren't able to participate by April 15th that we have extended the deadline for AP 2002 entries! Here are the details:
If your ribbon(s) come after April 2002, we'll still add them to the quipu as soon as possible, and we'll include them in the pamphlet when we update it at a later date. (Within the year.)
|
To add your knots to our quipu please submit the following:
a) AP 2002 entry form, and
b) Your ribbon, see specifications below.
|
|
| Quipu means knot in Quechua, the language of the Andes. |
|
We thank you in advance for your participation!
If you are not able to tie the knots yourself please email Kathy at k.murphy@chargeinc.org to arrange to have a ribbon tied for you.
Please use the button on the left in the purple box to email this web page's address to all who you think would like to join in this project!
