CHARGE, Inc.: Newly Formed Nonprofit OrganizationCure, Hope, Advocacy, Research and Global Education, Inc. (CHARGE) is a newly formed nonprofit organization founded by people with CFIDS and FMS*. The organization's goals are to establish and coordinate support groups for patients; acquire and disseminate knowledge concerning CFIDS, FMS and related disorders; encourage communication and advocacy among our members, organizations, professionals and concerned individuals and to promote research for the cause, methods of diagnosis, treatment, cure and prevention of CFIDS, FMS and related disorders.
CHARGE received its nonprofit status in November of 2000. Since then the organization filed a group exemption letter with the Internal Revenue Service. A group exemption letter is the request of a nonprofit organization from the Internal Revenue Service to be recognized as a central organization. As a central organization CHARGE will be able to establish subordinates. Subordinates will receive nonprofit status. The first subordinate of CHARGE has been approved! New York Support Network, Inc. (NYSN). NYSN is incorporated on its own but is subject to the general supervision and control of CHARGE. Once NYSN becomes a subordinate CHARGE hopes to create more like it, having the same mission, throughout the United States and eventually internationally.
